With tear-stained eyes,
I grasped the crumpled sheet
Of notebook paper.
I’d filled every line with a wish.
When I saw the first shooting star,
It was impossible to choose.
The universe took pity on me tonight.
I didn’t know there’d be a meteor shower.
I crossed off every single wish,
And even had a few stars to spare
Just to watch with glazed-eyed wonder,
Free from any yearning.
